Airport Chronicles - Chapter 14
Greetings from the spacious new Detroit airport (the only airport I know of with trains
running inside the terminal), where I am awaiting my flight back to Nashville after the
European tour.
The tour went well. Sally was in Europe to promote the new "Songs About Us" album. Along on
the tour were two Night Drivers, Jon Weisberger and Ned Luberecki, plus Aaron Till on fiddle
(Aaron is a great musician and it's safe to say is also the only American fiddler who speaks
Swiss German). I was along, primarily as a guest musician, occasional solo opening act, driver
and dad to our 4-year old who was also on the tour. It was either Jon or Ned who pointed out
that she is a more mature traveller than most 30 or 40-something musicians.
Highlights of the tour included: the fine hospitality of Barry and Janni Deen in the Netherlands,
a bottle-fed lamb in the Netherlands names "Nibbles", Cor Ras's 65th birthday party, saying
"Hoogeveen" a lot, seeing the String Dusters at the Big Bear Festival (they looked exhausted
but sounded great), and last but not least, our good friends Rolf and Monika Nef and the
beautiful town of Teufen. Thanks to them, to Barry and Janni and also especially to Pieter
Groenveld and Liz Meyer for making the tour possible.
Shortly after I recover from jetlag, I'll be heading to Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO, where
I'll be MCing a special bluegrass concert series, as part of the Bluegrass and Barbeque
extravaganza.
Got a plane to catch. Bye for now.
Chris
Important news: Lisa Jacobi (of the band Steel String Session) redesigned this website. Her web development
company is Curmudgeon Cafe. Thanks to her and to my brother Ben Jones for all their hard work.
